Today, my 20 GB Seagate HD crashed. Since about two days, I had some annoying errors on my console:
hda: task_out_intr: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: status error: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: no DRQ after issuing MULTWRITE
When starting up the system today, it told me that it recognized a disk with 136 MB space (!!) and then everything froze up. I disabled the disk in the BIOS, and now the system works again (the base install is on a SCSI disk).
The disk was about 3 and a half years old - not really a long lifetime. I can’t replace it, because the BIOS of this ancient (9 years, PPro with 200 MHz) PC wouldn’t recognize today’s disks with 80 GB minimum capacity. So I’ve really lost my spare disk - that’s bad.
